Welcome to the new Autism Speaks Canada blog!
Light it Up Blue, Autism Awareness Month, Autism is a Pain in the Aspergers fundraiser, IMFAR conference, Walks in Montreal, London, Toronto and Waterloo-Wellington and a Leadership Conference with our US counterparts. These are just a few of the things I’ve already had the opportunity to experience since I began at Autism Speaks Canada at the end of March. And that list will continue to grow, with our fall Walks less than 2 months away.
I came into the organization at a busy but exciting time, and I don’t think I could have been introduced to the world of Autism Speaks any better than Light it Up Blue and Autism Awareness Month. Heading downtown on April 2nd and seeing the CN Tower shining blue, and fully understanding and appreciating why it was lit it up blue on that day was a wonderful experience. And throughout that entire month --- the photos and stories that were shared with us on how people were showing their support and raising awareness for the autism cause was truly inspiring. Check out this photo gallery we have on our Facebook page to see how cities and people were lighting it up blue in April.
As I’m taking everything in and learning about all the great initiatives, fundraisers, research, service providers, volunteers, families, supporters and Walkers that there are involved in some form with Autism Speaks Canada, I realize there are a lot of wonderful stories out there that need to be shared. And that is what the Communications team here at Autism Speaks Canada is hoping to do with this new blog.
I welcome you to the new Autism Speaks Canada blog, and I hope you’ll return for all of our future posts!
