Ontario Budget Announcement
Autism Speaks Canada believes every Canadian living with autism and their families have the right to timely access to suitable supports and services to thrive and reach their full potential. We strongly believe in intervening early, intervening often, and throughout one’s lifespan.
The Ontario government has recently announced a new investment of $333 million in the autism program. We applaud the Ontario government for consulting with an expert committee, as well as other stakeholders, and families for their guidance, and for basing this action plan on research and evidence-informed decisions.
As we understand, the new funding is for children and youth to receive critical interventions earlier, when needed, and further intervention that will be individually matched to their needs. It intends to focus on a continuum of care using behavioural principals from age 1 onwards.
We sympathize with those families who are caught in the transition, and await more details on what the new program will offer. We encourage all families to join us as we learn together about the new Ontario Autism Program by registering for the interactive webinars presented by the Ministry of Children and Youth services at www.ontario.ca/autism.
