The Davis Autism Approach is a new, unique and innovative approach to correcting Autism Spectrum Disorders including Asperger's and PDD-NOS. The approach is also very useful to clients with ADD (either type). The program has 3 separate parts. First is called individuation, where we help the client to integrate their senses and begin to accurately perceive their environment. Second is the identity development portion of the program where missing information about how the world works is put into the client's existing identity allowing them to interact with their environment and the people in it in an appropriate way. Last is the social integration piece of the program which allows for full participation in life. We also have a pilot project serving non-verbal clients. Please call or email for more details.

AIM Approach/New Methodology. More than 6 years teaching with this methodology with children with special needs. We believe that to be effective, second language acquisition must take place in a context that is both meaningful and fun. There must also be plenty of opportunities for repetition of vocabulary and structures. Songs and plays provide the perfect vehicles for language learning because they are highly motivational and provide emotional "hooks" which greatly facilitate language acquisition. to learn more about AIM approach. We have struggled through without much support and have made great progess. I talk about what autism is, give some basic medial background and describe the different sensitivities or difficulties many people with autism have. I intersperse my presentation with personal anecdotes and examples of what our lives are like. It's a Power-Point based presentation that can be somewhat tailored to the intended audience. I'm always astounded at the incredibly thoughtful and insightful questions at the end and throughout. I do request that my services are kept to a reasonalbe geographical area.

The Open Access Resource Centre (OARC) is a charitable orgainzation dedicated to enriching the lives of Manitobans with challenges in communication through the use of speech-generating devices. The Centre provides information on the types and functions of various devices, and operates an extensive equipment loan program. The Equipment Loan Program is the core project of the Open Access Resource Centre. The Loan Program gives people with impairments in communication, their families and their service providers, the opportunity to borrow a speech-generating device for a ten-week trial to assess the everyday usefulness and appropriateness of the device. We are a unique program as: • there is no charge or fee for loan, tech-support, or training • there is no age limit for using the Centre’s resources meaning individuals do not lose support when they reach the age of majority, move to a different setting, or experience a change in diagnosis or disability • a referral is not required. Most commonly our services are accessed through speech language pathologists. As 80% of our loans are to youth under 18, most speech language pathologists are accessed via the school system. The balance accesses our service through other complimentary organizations or associations, clinicians or family members advocating for the person with the communication impairment.
