The Davis Autism Approach is a new, unique and innovative approach to correcting Autism Spectrum Disorders including Asperger's and PDD-NOS. The approach is also very useful to clients with ADD (either type). The program has 3 separate parts. First is called individuation, where we help the client to integrate their senses and begin to accurately perceive their environment. Second is the identity development portion of the program where missing information about how the world works is put into the client's existing identity allowing them to interact with their environment and the people in it in an appropriate way. Last is the social integration piece of the program which allows for full participation in life. We also have a pilot project serving non-verbal clients. Please call or email for more details.

Camp Kodiak
4069 Pheasant Run
Mississauga, ON

Telephone : 905-569-7595
E-mail : info@campkodiak.com
BACKGROUND Camp Kodiak is an integrated, non-competitive, residential camp serving children & teens with and without ADHD, LD, NLD & Asperger Syndrome. Campers come from all over North America and from abroad. The primary objectives of Camp Kodiak are to build confidence and self-esteem, to improve social skills, to foster independence and to provide an exciting and satisfying camp experience. This is achieved by providing a safe and nurturing environment, a mature, professional staff, a very low camper-to-staff ratio and a program that is designed to ensure success. Staff members never miss the opportunity to recognize and celebrate these successes. PROGRAM Camp Kodiak programs for success! All sports and activities are taught in an organized, step-by-step fashion to ensure success. Cooperation rather that competition is emphasized. We have over 50 sports, crafts, cultural and educational activities to ensure that all of campers are able to find several activities in which they can excel. Core Program: Many campers are hesitant to take on new challenges. In order to ensure that they get the most out of their camp experience Kodiak has developed a core program of 12 activities to which all cabin groups are scheduled. They include the Red Cross swimming program, waterskiing/wakeboarding/kneeboarding, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, team sports, tennis, archery, arts & crafts, drama, high ropes and rock climbing. Campers are encouraged to participate in these activities with their cabin group. Electives: There are several times each day when campers are able to choose their own activities and pursue personal interests independent of their cabinmates. Academics: Monday to Friday, right after breakfast, everyone in camp has an hour of academic instruction. There are two components to the academic program, Option 1 and Option 2. Parents select their campers’ academic program prior to their arrival at camp. Campers in Option 1 receive academic tutoring. Campers in Option 2 receive instruction in an educational activity such as music, drama, dance, gymnastics, pottery, photography, computers, etc. STAFF An important reason for the success of our program is our staff. Almost one half of our counselors are trained, certified professionals from the fields of education, psychology, social work and recreation. Every cabin has at least three counselors. One or two are professionals. The remaining staff are university students, most of whom are working towards a carreer in one of the helping professions. The camper-to-staff ratio is 2-to-1. All of our staff undergo a rigorous training period before the campers arrive and all new and returning counselors go through a police background check. MEDICAL CARE We have a doctor and three nurses on staff. They live on-site, administer all medication and are available 24 hours a day. The regional hospital in Parry Sound is 25 minutes away. TRANSPORTATION Transportation to camp is by highway coach from Toronto. Camp personnel are available to meet campers arriving at Toronto International Airport and to ensure they get their flights home at the end of camp. There is no extra charge for this service. Are you interested in participating in a study? If you are an adult with Asperger Syndrome or Nonverbal Learning Disabilty (NLD), you are invited to participate in research investigating word knowledge and visual problem-solving in London, Ontario. Participants will be asked about their understanding of word meanings and metaphors. They will also have their brain responses to questions about metaphors recorded. Their responses will be compared to participants who do not have a diagnosis. By examining the electrical signals emitted from the brain when different types of word pairs are presented (e.g., literal, unrelated, or metaphorical), we can see if there are differences in the way that adults in these groups process word meanings. We hope to find skills that will differentiate adults with AS and NLD from each other, and from typical adults, or to rule out differences in the areas that we are investigating. Better distinguishing between features of AS and NLD will in future help earlier diagnosis, and suggest practical, adaptational strategies for adults who face barriers as a result of AS or NLD. The study involves word and visual puzzles, two questionnaires, and the electrical brain activity recording. It will take between 3 and 4 hours to complete, and can be divided into two separate sessions if necessary. It is ideal for adults who live in London, Ontario, or who visit often and have friends or family with whom they can stay. A brief summary of study results will be sent to participants who provide an email address to the researchers for this purpose. If you are interested, please contact: Margot Stothers, The University of Western Ontario London, ON Phone: 519 661-2111, x 88006 Email: mstothe2@uwo.ca

There is no single cause of autism and there are varying symptoms. We are unable to effectively treat one area of the body without considering the whole. At Wellpath Clinic we have a thorough evaluation process and focus on individualized care. We evaluate what we need to get rid of in the body and where the body needs to support health and track and make modifications accordingly. Care options may include diet modification, identifying food sensitivities, mitochondrial support, vitmain and mineral supplements, essential fatty acids, gut treatments, amino acids, melatonin, hormonal support and immune system regulation.
